One on One Sessions
Two types of one on one sessions are being conducted by Brahma Vidya Gurukulam.
These are group sessions where Brahma Vidya is being unfolded, taking the traditional texts with their commentaries on them. The sessions would include reciting of certain texts according to the protocols along with the reciting of the texts under study.
1. Gurukula Classes for Vedanta Students:
2. Gurukula Classes for Public:
Satsangs are gatherings of spiritually minded people. The word satsang is translated as ‘association with the wise’. Such a gathering provides an opportunity for preparing one’s mind to become more refined in the pursuit of knowledge.
For the students of Brahma Vidya, satsangs are conducted on the third Saturday of each month, from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. There is puja to Acharya Sankara Bhagvatpada, reciting of Santi Pathah, reciting of verses from Bhagavad Gita, and group discussion of a previously selected topic of relevance to the knowledge of the Self. Sri Swami Bramanistanandaji sums up the discussion and further elucidates on the topic. Swamiji also gives discourse on verses of the text Vivekacudamani which are being taken up progressively. Later there is question-answer session, followed by Arati and Prasad.
Sri Swamiji’s discourse on the discussion topic is printed and distributed at the following month’s satsang. It is also printed in the Brahma Vidya Vani, a bi-monthly newsletter of B.V.G. To access the archived handout copies of the discourses, click this link.
Our living with its inherent time-bound-action-plans and targets being fixed backed by lack of inner leisure creates in one a war like situation. The daily living is a daily battle until at last each of us gets tired and weary. A certain hopelessness creeps in and an individual seems to miss the sense of direction.
The solution to this problem calls for a two pronged approach. The first which is immediate is to place the mind in a relatively composed frame which is the immediate aim of meditation. The second is to bring about an inner catharsis - mutation. Our experiences and the conclusions that we have drawn through them are so deeply entrenched or implanted in the psyche that we have become conditioned by them. There is a need for de-conditioning, and meditation as contemplation takes care of this.
B.V.G. conducts various meditation programs tailored to suit the individual needs. However, it has envisaged a format that is in three parts called Universal Meditation Course.
From time to time B.V.G. organises seminars on spiritual and general topics that are universal and of prime importance in everyone's life.
Through exposure to these one gains a certain psychological maturity and intellectual sharpness which are like the two wings of a bird. Just as the two wings help the bird so too are psychological maturity and intellectual sharpness.
Brahma Vidya - knowledge of oneself as free from limitations is the solution to all the ills of the society. One can trace the ills of the society emanating just from one source which is the individual.
The fundamental ignorance of the Self causes non-apprehension of one's essential nature which in turn triggers misapprehensions. These misapprehensions about oneself or the world cause the inner chaos.
Seekers of knowledge of the Self who have grown up in the West and who have been drawn to this Brahma Vidya teaching, have decided to meet up with the master on a regular basis once a month for socialising, acclimatisation, snacks, lecture, question-answers, group discussion and meditation. Quest meetings are held the first Thursday of every month from 7:00 pm to 9:15 pm.
Sri Swamiji’s lecture is printed and distributed at the following month’s Quest meeting. To access the archived handout copies of the lectures, click this link.
Brahma Vidya Gurukulam organises public lectures on topics of general interest for the members of public who cannot attend the regular programmes due to constraints of time, etc. These lectures are held at various locations throughout the city.
If the needed mental relaxation is not brought about through the process it is not yoga, but just a bio-technic exercise. The yoga sessions are called Raja Yoga sessions as the approach is to make it a right royal path, where effortlessly the practitioner is able to ascend the path of mental, intellectual or spiritual evolution. Raja Yoga sessions are being conducted once a week on every Monday.
The Western society has become aware of the immense power of the Vedic chants. Chanting or even listening to the chants helps one gain a positive vibration around one. Brahma Vidya Gurukulam has devised a chanting format that an average North American can easily follow.
